Ciao and welcome to the Swiss way of celebrating Fall!

Autumn in Switzerland arrives quietly, almost politely. One day the trees are green, the next they are suddenly dressed in shades of gold, rust, and crimson. The air becomes crisp, the sunlight softer, and the rhythm of the cities slows just enough to make you notice the change.

And nowhere does this seasonal transformation feel more magical than around Zurich.

Zurich in Autumn: When the City Slows Down

Fall in Switzerland feels almost cinematic. Nature seems to take out its finest palette and paint the landscape with deep reds, glowing oranges, and warm shades of amber.

Zurich, a city usually buzzing with movement, becomes slightly calmer during these months. The streets are still lively, cafés are still full, but everything feels just a little more relaxed. It’s the season for long walks, warm drinks, and discovering the quieter corners of the city.

The parks around Zurich become the perfect stage for this transformation. The Zurich Botanical Garden offers beautiful autumn colors among exotic plants, while the historic Lindenhof hill provides one of the most charming viewpoints in the city. Another perfect autumn stroll is along Lake Zurich, where the lake mirrors the changing trees and the Alps appear faintly on the horizon on clear days.

But autumn in Zurich is not only about landscapes.

It is also a time when the city’s cultural life thrives. Museums launch new exhibitions, theaters open their autumn seasons, and concert halls fill with music again. Whether you are visiting contemporary art at the Kunsthaus or enjoying a classical performance in the Tonhalle, the cultural scene feels especially alive during these months.

And then, of course, there is the food.

Autumn markets across the city begin to overflow with seasonal produce: apples, mushrooms, chestnuts, cheeses, fresh bread and bottles of local wine. It’s the perfect moment to sit in a cozy restaurant and enjoy a warm raclette or fondue while the temperatures outside slowly drop.

Just Outside Zurich: Where Autumn Becomes a Celebration

While Zurich itself is beautiful in autumn, some of the most memorable seasonal experiences lie just outside the city.

One of the most beloved destinations during this time of year is Jucker Farm, a family-run agricultural experience that has become something of a fall institution in Switzerland.

Located near Rapperswil-Jona, not far from Lake Zurich, the Bächlihof farm is part of the larger Jucker Farm family, which operates several experience farms in the Zurich region.

These farms combine agriculture, gastronomy, events, and family activities into something much more than a traditional farm visit.

Jucker Farm's Pumpkin Wonderland

Nothing says Autumn like the vibrant orange of pumkins! At the Jucker Farm, close to Rapperswill, Switzerland, pumpkins take center stage in a spectacular celebration of all things fun and fall! The farm becomes a pumpkin wonderland during autumn, where pumpkins of every shape, size, and hue come to life.

Imagine wandering through fields bursting with pumpkins, from minis to giants. Gigantic pumpkin sculptures, creatively carved and decorated, amuse visitors of all ages. There's even a pumpkin regatta on the farm's lake, where pumpkins set sail in a quirky race!

But it's not just visual delights; it's a pumpkin food extravaganza. You can savor pumpkin soups, pies, and pumpkin-spiced everything, plus enjoy creative pumpkin-themed treats.

The Jucker Farm is not just a farm; it's a fall fiesta, an autumn adventure where pumpkin mania reigns supreme. Come join the pumpkin party, where orange is the color of fun! 🎃🍁

Special activities and more

  • Pumpkin Sculptures: Marvel at the intricate pumpkin sculptures and displays. These sculptures are beautifully carved and often follow a specific theme each year, making for an excellent photo opportunity.

  • Pumpkin Carving: Participate in pumpkin carving sessions, where you can create your own pumpkin masterpiece with the provided tools and guidance.

  • Farm Shop: Visit the farm shop, where you can purchase a variety of farm-fresh products, including pumpkins, apples, and homemade treats.

  • Culinary Delights: Indulge in a wide range of pumpkin-based culinary delights, from pumpkin soup and pumpkin pie to pumpkin-flavored drinks. Jucker Farm's pumpkin-themed menu is a highlight. I had their very own version of a pumpkin spice latte, a fantastic chestnut cake, a flavour pumpkin soup and some other delicious treats.

  • 💡 There's also the chance to have brunch there and to enjoy it in one of their seminar rooms - a perfect activity for the colder autumn days!

  • Farm Tours: Jucker Farm offers guided tours that provide insights into their farming practices and the harvest season.

  • Jucker Farm shop: at the entrance of the premises you'll find their very own buffet style restaurant and shop. Fruits and veggies are available by season, flavourful schnapps and and inviting cold cuts will be the perfect souvenir to recreate the experience at home. But the best souvenir is... a pumpkin! Hundreds of pumpkins are sold at the farm, decorative and edible, peculiar shaped and round, from bright orange to almost blue, big and small - take home the pumpkin of your dream!

"Did I miss my chance to visit?"

Absolutely not!

The pumpkin festivities at Jucker Farm takes place every year. It has become an eagerly awaited annual tradition, with the farm's fields transforming into a pumpkin wonderland during the autumn season.

Visitors from near and far flock to the farm to partake in the pumpkin-related activities, enjoy the pumpkin displays, and savor the culinary delights centered around this beloved autumn gourd.

So, if you're looking to experience the pumpkin magic at Jucker Farm, you can plan to visit during the fall season each year when the festivities are in full swing.

A Small Taste of Autumn: My Favourite Pumpkin Soup

After visiting Jucker Farm, it was impossible not to feel inspired by all things pumpkin. One of my favourite ways to recreate that cozy autumn atmosphere at home is with a simple pumpkin soup, made with seasonal vegetables and warming spices.

👉 Read the full recipe here: Autumn Bliss: Ivanka's Pumpkin Soup.

It’s the perfect dish for a rainy day, preferably enjoyed with a thick sweater and a view of golden leaves outside.

A Perfect Place for Families (and Curious Adults)

The farm is not just about food. Jucker Farm is designed as an “Erlebnisbauernhof”, an experience farm.

Children can climb on hay castles, explore playgrounds, or even visit small farm animals. Adults, meanwhile, tend to gravitate toward the café, the restaurant terrace, or the farm shop. And honestly, I don’t blame them.

The shop is a small paradise of regional products: fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade jams, baked goods, schnapps, and all kinds of seasonal delicacies. But the most tempting souvenir is still the simplest one. A pumpkin. Hundreds of them fill the farm during autumn, large ones, tiny decorative ones, oddly shaped ones, and even blue-grey varieties that look almost unreal. Choosing one to take home feels like choosing a piece of the season itself.

A Farm That Lives All Year Round

Although Jucker Farm is famous for its pumpkins, the farm is actually a year-round destination. Across its different locations in the Zurich region, the Jucker family produces fruits, vegetables, and berries using sustainable farming methods. Throughout the seasons, the farms host different experiences and harvest celebrations.

  • In spring and early summer, the fields fill with berries, cherries, and fresh vegetables.

  • In summer, visitors can enjoy outdoor terraces, farm brunches, and seasonal dishes prepared with ingredients harvested directly from the surrounding fields.

  • By autumn, pumpkins, apples, and winter vegetables take center stage.

  • And even in winter, the farm remains a cozy destination where visitors can shop for seasonal produce, enjoy hearty meals in the farm restaurant, or browse the farm shop filled with homemade products like jams, soups, sauces, and baked goods.

The idea is simple but wonderful: bringing people closer to the land and the food they eat.

The Swiss way of fall

In Switzerland, autumn feels deeply connected to the land.

It’s the season of harvest, local traditions, and simple pleasures: fresh produce, warm food, crisp air, and landscapes that seem almost too beautiful to be real. Places like Jucker Farm capture this spirit perfectly. Between pumpkin fields, farm shops, seasonal dishes, and colorful displays, it’s a reminder that autumn is not just a transition between seasons. It is a celebration in itself.

So take a walk, listen to the leaves crunch beneath your feet, breathe in the cool air, and enjoy the scent of roasted chestnuts and pumpkin soup drifting through the autumn air.

Switzerland does fall beautifully.
